ProductWriter r16.00 is
scheduled for distribution at the end of October 2004. The ProductWriter
release will be distributed on CD; the CD will contain release 16.00 and full
installation instructions. All the contact names on
our ProductWriter distribution list will receive a copy of the CD. The CD is
distributed free of charge and there is no need to contact the Service Desk
to receive a copy. The following list
details the main features of the new release. |
|
|
General
There
are no changes to the operating systems that ProductWriter supports. This
means ProductWriter will continue to be supported on Windows XP, Windows
2000, Windows NT and Windows 98. |
|
|
Tables Editor
There has been demand to support text in tables following on from the recent text handling options in release 14.00. These text facilities help manage wordings for string manipulation in schemes, and now release 16.00 will provide text in tables for common string processing. This functionality can be found in the Tables Editor for use within schemes and ILD.
Use a page number field to go directly to an existing table page.
Tables editing facilities have been further improved
to include cut, copy, paste, paste from an external source and the 'undo'
function will be available for these features too. |
|
|
Groups Editor
A
message will be displayed when referenced groups are sorted to provide a warning
that this may impact groups, rules and tables.
A message will be provided at group import warning that referenced rules and tables need to be checked following the import.
Enhanced
logging reports will be provided for group imports. These reports will now
include more detailed group value information for list and range
groups. |
|
|
Repository
The
distribution configuration for a Distribution Point has been extended to
provide the ability to set default distribution files for each distribution
point. This functionality is in addition to existing distribution information
configured at scheme revision level. The default distribution information
will be used if no scheme revision distribution information has been set.
The repository has been updated to allow the creation of a new repository branch from an existing branch. The repository manager contains the menu options and buttons to allow the selection of a branch to copy and then create a new branch. This branch creation will also copy up branch information and configuration details. |
|
|
Forms
The ability to produce .pdf documents is
available in release 16.00. The .pdf documents are available in the
ProductWriter Forms editor and can be viewed, saved and printed in this
format. The Test Scheme Editor provides similar functionality and can ‘print’
forms to a .pdf document. This opens a .pdf view providing the save and print
options. The existing features of both editors remain unchanged as .pdf is an
addition to existing tools. |

Planning upgrade to r16.00 Schemes developed on
ProductWriter r16.00 will only run on a r16.00 Run Time Environment. Insurers
must ensure that Integrators have upgraded to RTE r16.00 before delivering
schemes that have been assembled on ProductWriter r16.00. The r16.00 RTE will also
run pre R16.00 assembled schemes. To allow users time to
upgrade to release 16.00 we will continue to support release 15.00 for up to
3 months following the distribution of release 16.00. After this time (i.e. February 2005
onwards) dictionaries will be distributed in r16.00 format. ProductWriter and
the Run Time Environment will need to have been upgraded by this time. |
|
|
Release 16.00 of the RTE is required in order to run schemes that have been assembled on r16.00 of ProductWriter and to use dictionaries produced in the r16.00 format. It is therefore essential that integrators upgrade to r16.00 of the RTE in time to run r16.00 schemes, by February 2005 at the latest in order to support the r16.00 format dictionaries.
The RTE / XRTE operating system support has been
extended to include Windows 2003 server.
The RTE / XRTE will have the ability to produce
the .pdf forms designed in the ProductWriter forms editor. This feature
provides a cross platform document format that anyone can open.
The XRTE has been enhanced to provide extended text string length processing up to a maximum of 4096 characters. This functionality is already available in the RTE.
