ProductWriter

ProductWriter Release 18.00 is here!

ProductWriter r18.00 is a significant release that brings together a number of new features, enhanced usability and greater flexibility in developing new products.

Text Groups

An insurer will now be able to define user defined text groups. Text groups are based on dictionary or user defined text properties and allow users to define groups based on insurer defined text values. Text groups offer features that are similar to functionality offered for range and list groups.

Set Corresponding

Insurers will now be able to set all the output properties in an object to those from another object, where the property names and types match. This can be done with a single rule statement. This functionality works in a similar manner to the setting of individual properties.

Invalid and New List Values

Product developers will now be able to define statements using “If input and not in list”. This functionality enables handling of list values that are not yet included in the published code lists.

Where a list value is found to be input and not in the list, the X/RTE will continue processing to produce results. This is particularly helpful for schema based dictionaries where code lists are maintained by insurers.

Window Resizing and Positioning

Object names in schema based dictionaries tend to be longer and the width of the dropdown or selection box caused names to be displayed only partially.

A facility has been added in Release 18 where insurers can resize the ‘edit’ windows within the rules editor to allow longer object names to be visible. In addition, ProductWriter now remembers window positions so that less time is spent aligning windows on a screen.

View By

A “View By” option is now available within a Group. This new functionality allows users to change the order of the displayed rows to make the editing of groups easier.

XML Constructs

The dictionary generator has been enhanced to allow Polaris schemas containing xs:choice and xs:all constructs to be used for data dictionary generation.

This allows for greater flexibility for schema based dictionary generation and greater correlation between XML schemas and their related ProductWriter dictionaries.

RTE Mapping File

Following a successful schema dictionary generation a mapping file of the objects, properties, elements and ids is created. This file can be used by RTE integrators in a similar way to that produced through the DictOut utility.

Further information for r18.00 changes will be found in the ProductWriter on-line User Guide. This User Guide is distributed as part of the ProductWriter release. The 'ProductWriter Overview' chapter of the Guide outlines the release changes and provides a link to more detailed sections of the document.

Benefits of moving up to r18.00

The benefits of using ProductWriter r18.00 include :

Greater flexibility in defining product logic on text values by using text groups

Greater control on handling of unknown list values

Enhanced functionality that allows for simpler and quicker rule writing

   Improvements in the user interface

More flexibility for development of bespoke products

Even greater translation offered between dictionaries and standard XML messages

Effect on existing products and dictionaries

Existing products are not affected by this release and will operate on the existing dictionaries as they do now.  Traditional dictionaries (motor, household and commercial) will remain and will continue to be developed and supported.

The look and feel of ProductWriter is unchanged. Where new functionality has been added, care has been taken to ensure that the user interface remains consistent.

Run Time Environment (RTE)

Advice on how to support the new functionality in Release 18 dictionaries within an integration will be provided with the release.  r18.00 of the RTE will be backwards compatible with schemes developed at r17.10 and all earlier ProductWriter releases.

ProductWriter r18.00 training

We are currently assessing demand for a special training course for using new functionality released in r18.00. This one day workshop will cover all enhancements made to Release 18.00. Please contact the service desk should you be interested in such a course.
