Course: ProductWriter® Introduction

What Skills will I Learn ?

You will learn the basic skills required to write an insurance product using ProductWriter. You will learn about the Polaris ‘Skeleton Scheme’ which is used as the basis for your product, and you will use the ProductWriter tools to create the product’s groups, tables and rules. You will test the product, store it in a Repository and also produce the files required for integration.

By the end of the course, you will:

-         Be able to explain how the Polaris software is used by insurers and integrators

 

-         Understand the concept of the Polaris ‘Data Dictionary’

 

-         Know what ‘planning’ needs to be done before writing your product

 

-         Have used all the ‘ProductWriter tools’ required for product writing and testing

 

-         Have written a basic product using the skeleton scheme and rating guide examples

 

-         Have generated the product run-time files required for ‘Integration’

Note - The Data Dictionary (i.e. Motor, Household, Commercial Lines) used on the course will depend on the Attendees' requirements.

-         Underwriters, business analysts and IT staff with no previous experience of ProductWriter who will be writing or maintaining products.

-         To introduce you to the ProductWriter tools used to maintain products and track product changes.

-         To show you how to prepare the product for Integration

Pre Requisites

-         You are familiar with Insurance underwriting procedures

-         You are a Windows® user.

Polaris and ProductWriter Overviews

-         How Polaris was formed

-         The ProductWriter Navigator

 

The Data Dictionary

The dictionary contains the Industry standard data items that are used to write the product.

Groups

- How to apply group values to the group lists held on the dictionary
- How to import group values from an external source
- How to create range groups for numerical data

Tables

- How to build tables to contain values for base premium rates, loadings and discounts
- How to import existing table values from an external source

Rules

How to write rules for :

- Risk Acceptance (declines and refers)
- Premium Calculation and Quote Breakdown
- Terms and Conditions

Test the Product

You will learn how to test your product using the various
ProductWriter testing tools

 

Integration

You will learn how to prepare the product for Integration
